DESCRIPTION:Event Name: Network Vocal Ensemble – Secondary\nLocation: Mount St Joseph – ALH\nSection Number: 28 \nGeneral Category Guidelines\nEnsemble performances must not exceed stipulated section ensemble performer limits and associated time limits. \nSolos are permitted within repertoire choices. Solos are to be used to enhance the musical performance and not simply to feature students. \nTeachers/tutors/non-students are not permitted to perform with choral ensembles. \nTeachers/tutors/non-students are allowed to conduct. \nConductors may stand on the stage or on the floor in front of the stage to conduct. Individual conductors may lead any number of choral ensembles. \nRepertoire choices are at the discernment of the teacher/tutor. \nRepertoire should be appropriate for all ages – language and themes should be in keeping with a school age audience\, and comply with SCS mission\, vision and values. \nAccompaniment: \nPerformances may be accompanied or a cappella. Schools must provide their own accompanist for this event. If a song is to be performed a cappella\, it must be sung in at least two-part harmony\, or if it is in unison\, must be specifically written as a unison piece appropriate to the genre (eg: sacred music chant). \nBacking tracks may be used in all vocal ensemble sections. Backing tracks must be instrumental tracks only with no vocal lines. \nA copy of your music score must be provided at point of registration. \nCostumes and performance props are not a requirement within this section. School uniforms and ensemble performance uniforms are acceptable dress. \nBasic choral movement is permitted as a means of enhancing the ensemble performance only. For questions or clarification regarding this\, please email the Eisteddfod Team. \n  \nSection Specific Guidelines:\nTime and Performer stipulations – performances must not exceed: \nYear 7-12:\n21-50 performers\nTime Limit 8 mins (4 mins max per piece)\nPerformance will be stopped at 1 minute after time. \n  \nMust perform 2 contrasting pieces\, one of which must be composed or arranged by an Australian. \n• It is an expectation that ensembles must be singing in 2-part harmony at minimum. \n• Individual students may perform as both a vocal soloist and in a choral ensemble. \nProvided Equipment:\n6 choir microphones on stands (ambient pickup only) \n4 solo hand-held microphones \nGrand piano OR weighted keyboard (dependent on availability) \nBacking track playback (played onsite by technician) \nConductor stand. \nJudging Criteria:\n\nIntonation – pitch\, tuning\, tonal quality.\nRhythm\, timing\, overall structure.\nEnsemble performance quality and expression\, memorisation and confidence.\nDynamics and articulation appropriate to style.\nEnsemble awareness including accompanist/familiarity with backing track and awareness of conductor.\nChoice of repertoire suitable for stage and ability.\nAdherence to harmonic requirements as per the section rules.\n\nImmediate Point Deductions:\n\n1 point for not providing a score of the song being performed\n2 point deduction per 30 seconds over time (per piece).\n2 point deduction for incorrect conductor/tutor usage\, eg singing with the group.\n5 point deduction for backing tracks containing vocal lines.\n100% deduction if backing track contains slurs or swearing.
