SUMMARY:Solo Speech & Drama – [Section 61] Dramatic Monologue
DESCRIPTION:Event Name: Dramatic Monologue\nLocation: Southern Cross Burwood – Drama Studio\nSection Number: 61 \nGeneral Category Guidelines:\nFor Eisteddfod Entrants of previous years\, this section now combines self devised and scripted monologues. \n1 piece only to be performed. \nAll Drama sections are to be performed from memory unless otherwise stated. No prompting allowed. Scripts may not be included as props\, sets or costumes. Scripts/Text are to be included via PDF in your registration form or by the appointed date. \nRepertoire can be from plays\, comedy stand up\, movies\, etc\, or of your own devising. Performances coming from scripted material must be an interpretation\, not a recreation\, of a script. \nPerformances that require sound effects must produce sound locally. Entrants will be required to provide their own playback unit (ie. phone\, laptop etc.) for any sound effects required. A cable will be provided front of stage\, and it is the responsibility of the entrant to provide their own assistant (staff\, teacher etc.) to play any sound effects at the appropriate time. \nPerformances may include languages other than English where it is contextual and therefore\, can be readily understood by an audience. Translations must be provided as part of the script PDF. \nMime and Physical Theatre routines are very welcome\, but these must be scripted – you must provide the outline of your piece with specific intentions of blocking. Performance may be physical with no or little dialogue but must be narrative and character driven and not pure dance. \nUse of offensive language will be penalised\, and the performance may be stopped. The content of the script must be appropriate to the age of the performer and for a school age audience. \nEntrants may bring minimal hand-held props. \nNo set constructions permitted. \nCostumes may be worn where appropriate\, however\, theatre blacks are preferred. While costuming is an optional requirement\, they MUST adhere to appropriate modesty standards for the age. Costumes must preserve the dignity of the performer. \nSection Specific Guidelines:\nTime stipulations – Performances must not exceed:\nYear 3-6: (Ages 7-12) 3 minutes\nYear 7-10: (Ages 12-16) 4 minutes\nYear 11-12:(Ages(16-18) 5-7  minutes \nProvided Equipment\n3 large drama boxes \n5 small drama boxes \nChairs \n1 Small Table. \nJudging Criteria:\n\nInterpretation of the script.\nManipulations of dramatic elements eg focus\, tension space\, role etc.\nEngaging for an audience.\nClear vocal and movement skills.\nTiming and energy.\nDeveloping and sustaining characters’ emotional and physical life\, commitment and belief.\n\nImmediate Point Deductions:\n\n2 point deduction per 20 seconds over time.\n2 point deduction for imitation of a performer in place of interpretation.\n2 point deduction for inappropriate costume choice.\n5 Point deduction for script not previously submitted for approval on registration.\n100% point deduction for use of any swearing or “slurs”
