Event Name: Classical Instrumental Duo/Trio/Quartet
Location: Southern Cross Catholic College Burwood – Auditorium
Section Number: 9
General Category Guidelines:
Please be advised these sections are based first on grade, then age. For example, if a section comprises students in Grade 3 between ages 10-13, they are considered to be of the same playing standard and may compete together. The Eisteddfod Team will endeavour to group similar ages together where possible.
Eisteddfod grades are based upon grade levels of the Australian Music Examinations Board (A.M.E.B.) Performers may select their grade level from Grade 1 – Grade 8. When selecting your Grade (if you do not play traditional grade exams), it can often be found on the music or you can search online for the difficulty of the piece. If you are having trouble determining the Grade of the music, please feel free to contact the Eisteddfod Team for assistance.
1 piece or 1 movement from a piece only to be performed.
Teachers are not permitted to perform in any Duo/Trio/Quartet Section except as an accompanist.
Performers/schools must provide their own piano/instrumental accompanist. Accompaniment may be provided by a backing track or by a live accompanist. For ALL instrumental sections, an accompaniment (live or recorded) MUST be provided, unless the piece was written intentionally to be performed unaccompanied.
Backing tracks must be instrumental harmonic tracks only with no melodic or vocal line. See General Participation Guidelines for backing track submission requirements.
The repertoire is to be appropriate to all audiences, and should be aligned with SCS’ mission, vision and values
Section Specific Guidelines:
Time limits must not exceed stipulated section time limits:
Grade 1 – Grade 4: 3 minutes
Grade 5 – Grade 8: 5 minutes
Instrumentation should consist of any standard orchestral instruments. Any entry containing one standard orchestral instrument and one or more contemporary instruments must be entered in Section 10.
Piano may be used in these sections but the piano must play a distinct part and not accompany another instrument. If music is not provided adjudicators will only be able to judge what they can hear.
Students in this section must adhere to the same grading guidelines as solo performers. Performers in a single Duo, Trio or Quartet entry may be of different Grades, but will be programmed based on the highest Grade level between a group’s performers entrants.
Each entrant in this section must be entered individually by a parent or guardian. Within that registration, each other performer’s name must be listed to corroborate entries.
