DESCRIPTION:Event Name: Electric Guitar Solo\nLocation: Southern Cross Catholic College Burwood – Auditorium\nSection Number: 14 \nGeneral Category Guidelines:\nPlease be advised these sections are based first on grade\, then age. For example\, if a section comprises students in Grade 3 between ages 10-13\, they are considered to be of the same playing standard and may compete together. \nThe Eisteddfod Team will endeavour to group similar ages together where possible. \nEisteddfod grades are based upon grade levels of the Australian Music Examinations Board (A.M.E.B.) Performers may select their grade level from Grade 1 – Grade 8. \nWhen selecting your Grade (if you do not play traditional grade exams)\, it can often be found on the music or you can search online for the difficulty of the piece. \nIf you are having trouble determining the Grade of the music\, please feel free to contact the Eisteddfod Team for assistance. \n1 piece or 1 movement from a piece only to be performed. \nSection Specific Guidelines:\nTime limits must not exceed stipulated section time limits:\nGrade 1-4: 3 mins\nGrade 5-8: 5 mins \nFor ALL instrumental sections\, an accompaniment (live or recorded) MUST be provided\, unless the piece was written intentionally to be performed unaccompanied. \nAccompaniment may be provided by a backing track or by a live accompanist. Performers must provide their own piano/instrumental accompanist or backing track. \nBacking tracks must be instrumental harmonic tracks only with no melodic line. \nThe repertoire is to be appropriate to all audiences\, and should be aligned with SCS’ mission\, vision and values. \n***Please note\, this is not a Vocal Section – entrants should not sing in this section*** \nProvided Equipment:\nMusic Stands & Chairs \n1 Guitar amp | 1 Bass amp | Direct Input for acoustic guitars \n1 Standard Drum Kit \nGrand Piano or Weighted Keys (subject to availability) \nPerformers/schools WILL supply any further amplification or effects required i.e. distortion pedal\, and must advise of any additional amplification/effects to be used in their performance as part of their registration. \nJudging Criteria:\n\nTechnical fluency and facility\nIntonation\nRhythm\nSolo performance expression\nDynamics and articulation appropriate to style\nSolo awareness\, communication with accompanist/familiarity with backing track\n\nImmediate Point Deductions:\n\n2 point deduction per 20 seconds over time.\n2 point deduction for a teacher or adult playing accompaniment that is more a part than accompaniment.\n2 point deduction for lyrics and themes that are no G-rated\n100% points deduction for any explicit language on a backing track\, and no places will be awarded\, only written feedback given by the adjudicator.
