The content of the poem must be appropriate to the age of the performer and for a school age audience. \nSection Specific Guidelines:\nPoetry Recital will be offered in three divisions:\n-Years 5 & 6\n-Years 7/8/9\n-Years 10/11/12 \nTime Limit:\nYears 5 & 6 – 1-3 minutes\nYears 7 – 12 – 5 minutes \nEach speaker will be required to introduce and recite one POEM chosen by the student from a published\, acknowledged Australian poet appropriate for a performance. The poem is not to be written by the student. The poem should be at least one minute in length. \nStudents will recite their chosen poem from memory\, to enable them to connect with the audience. \nParticipants must speak for 30 seconds prior to the presentation of their prepared poem\, introducing the poet\, the poem and giving a personal response to (not a literary analysis of) the poem.The personal response is to be spoken\, not read\, otherwise penalties apply. It is important to enter the appropriate section according to the student’s age and grade. For the purpose of this Eisteddfod\, age levels are based on the age they are as of 1st January 2026. \nPlease be advised these sections are based first on grade\, then age. For example if a section comprises students in Grade 3 between ages 10-13\, they are considered to be of the same playing standard and may compete together. The Eisteddfod Team will endeavour to group similar ages together where possible. \nEisteddfod grades are based upon grade levels of the Australian Music Examinations Board (A.M.E.B.). Performers may select their grade level from Grade 1 – A.Mus.A./L.Mus.A. \nSection Specific Guidelines:\nTime stipulations – performances must not exceed:\nGrade 1-5: 4 minutes\nGrade 6-8: 5 minutes \n1 piece or 1 movement from a piece only to be performed. \nRepertoire must be selected from the appropriate genre for the section. \nThe repertoire of this section is based on the style of the music rather than the period in which it was written. Performers may select their grade level from Grade 1 – Grade 8. When selecting your Grade (if you do not play traditional grade exams)\, it can often be found on the music or you can search online for the difficulty of the piece. If you are having trouble determining the Grade of the music\, please feel free to contact the Eisteddfod Team for assistance. \n1 piece or 1 movement from a piece only to be performed. \nTeachers are not permitted to perform in any Duo/Trio/Quartet Section except as an accompanist. \nPerformers/schools must provide their own piano/instrumental accompanist. Accompaniment may be provided by a backing track or by a live accompanist. For ALL instrumental sections\, an accompaniment (live or recorded) MUST be provided\, unless the piece was written intentionally to be performed unaccompanied. \nBacking tracks must be instrumental harmonic tracks only with no melodic or vocal line. Performers must provide their own piano/instrumental accompanist. \nAccompaniment may be provided by a backing track\, self-accompaniment by the songwriter/performer\, or a solo pianist/guitarist/instrumentalist. No live accompaniment is permitted\, unless this has been previously arranged with Eisteddfod organisers. \nPerformance music must contain appropriate themes and lyrics for the age and stage of the performer/s\, in line with the mission\, vision and values of SCS. \nMusic must not contain swearing or slurs. \nAll music and dance movements are to be congruent with the Catholic ethos of the association. \nCostuming is an optional requirement but MUST adhere to appropriate modesty standards for the age. Costumes must preserve the dignity of the performer. No midriff or cut away tops.
