DESCRIPTION:Event Name: Classical Ballet Dance Ensemble – Primary\nLocation: Mount St Joseph – ALH\nSection Number: 42 \nGeneral Category Guidelines:\n1 piece only to be performed per ensemble. \nDance ensembles may be performed with or without accompaniment. \nAccompaniment must be provided in the way of a backing track. No live accompaniment is permitted\, unless this has been previously arranged with Eisteddfod organisers. \nPerformance music must contain appropriate themes and lyrics for the age and stage of the performer/s\, in line with the mission\, vision and values of SCS. \nMusic must not contain swearing or slurs. \nAll music and dance movements are to be congruent with the Catholic ethos of the association. \nCostuming is an optional requirement but MUST adhere to appropriate modesty standards for the age. Costumes must preserve the dignity of the performer. No midriff or cut away tops. High cut costumes (cut out from the leg to the waist) are not acceptable for any individual or group. \nWork is to be original. It cannot be a copy of an established dance. \nTeachers/tutors/non-students are not permitted to perform with dance ensembles. It is an expectation that ensembles are singing in a minimum of 2-part harmony.\nOR\n• Two medleys or mashups of a minimum of 3 songs each. It is an expectation that ensembles are singing in a minimum of 2-part harmony. Ie. A group of 5 students entered in self devised small ensemble can only perform in one group. The content of the improvisation must be appropriate to the age of the performer and for a school age audience. \nTheatre blacks are preferred\, sports uniform will be permitted. School uniform will not permitted. \nSection Specific Guidelines\nPerformer Limit:\n3-6 Performers \nPerformances must not exceed stipulated section duration limits: \nYears 7-12: 3 minutes \nPerformances will be stopped at 30 seconds over time \n  \nA scene performed using the given stimulus. \nTeams will be given a scenario in which they must create that scene/situation for an audience. \nTeams will be given their scenario 15 min before they are called to the stage to prepare and rehearse their scene. \nThe stimulus and skills for performance and improvisation will be scaffolded for the students in a 45 minute workshop (inclusive of warm up time). Sample improvisation topics and scenarios might look like the following eg. the flower shop on Valentine’s day\, buying your first car\, etc. Location and context will be given to help the students for performance planning. \nNo preparation is required prior to participation on the day.
