FAQS
Have a question about the Sydney Catholic Schools Eisteddfod?
Our Frequently Asked Questions provide quick, helpful answers to the most common queries from parents, students and teachers.
Registration FAQs
Who can register a student for the Eisteddfod?
Parents can register solo entrants; teachers must register School Ensembles and any Duo, Trio or Quartet performing in the April holidays.
This is to ensure appropriate permissions are given as students require individual permission at point of registration.
How do I register my child?
Go to the Award Force platform and register or sign in. Each entry for a section requires a separate form.
Can students register themselves?
No. Students cannot register themselves. This is to ensure students have parental consent to be involved in the SCS Eisteddfod.
Students who enter themselves will have their entry rejected by the system moderators.
What if I make a mistake in the registration form?
You can edit your entry until the registration deadline. After that, changes must be requested to the Eisteddfod Team and accepted at their discretion according to the participation guidelines.
Can I register late?
Late entries are only accepted under special circumstances (e.g. illness, bereavement) and at the discretion of the Eisteddfod Team.
Preparation FAQs
How many sections can my child enter?
Soloists may enter up to three sections. This can be in the same category or span multiple categories. A solo student may not enter the same section twice.
Duo, Trio and Quartet entries count as one of the three entries permitted per solo student.
Ensemble sections have no entry limit and may be entered in as many sections as the teacher/s choose.
The majority of each ensemble group needs to be comprised of different students within a section.
What kind of repertoire is allowed?
All material must be age-appropriate, suitable for a school audience and reflect Sydney Catholic Schools ethos. Explicit content will result in point deductions.
Why do I need to upload music or scripts?
Adjudication is based on the performance of the material submitted, so an accurate representation of your piece (be it a monologue, a piano item, or a song you are singing) must be provided.
Scores, scripts, and backing tracks must be uploaded by the registration deadline and named correctly.
What should my child wear?
School uniform or age-appropriate performance attire. Costumes must preserve the dignity of the performer.
What if my child wants to change their piece?
Part of the experience of the Eisteddfod is following the rules of registration and submission of your material. Proper performance preparation in integral. Submitting your registration with an obviously incorrect attachment will result in a point deduction on the day of performance.
Changing repertoire on the day will similarly result in a point deduction.
If you need to change your submitted attachment under special circumstances, you must contact the Eisteddfod Team to avoid the point deduction.
Onsite & Performance FAQs
Where are performances held?
Solo events are at Southern Cross Catholic College, Burwood.
Ensemble events are held at various host schools listed in the information in each section.
What time should we arrive?
Solo: 30 minutes before your section stars.
Ensemble: 60 minutes before your section starts.
Can parents attend performances?
Parents may attend all solo events. Students are under the care of their parent or guardian while onsite for events – the Eisteddfod is considered a public event, and only while backstage is the entrant under the care of the Eisteddfod Team
Ensemble events are closed to parents unless they are approved helpers. Schools must send through all approved parents helper details in advance, you may not arrive on the day without prior approval to be onsite.
Is there food available at the venue?
No. Teachers, Parents and Entrants must bring their own food and drinks.
Water stations are available in every venue.
What happens if we’re running late?
We are unable to hold a section start time due to late arrivals. If you arrive late but adjudication of your section has not yet taken place, you will still be able to perform.
If you arrive after your section has finished, we will try and assist you with seeing if there is another similar section you may be able to compete in. This may mean competing against older or more experienced students.
We highly advise you leave ample time to arrive prior to your section’s advertised start time. On occasion we do run early, and very rarely run late, so ensuring you are onsite 30 or 60 minutes ahead of your section is recommended.
