Event Name: Dramatic Monologue
Location: Southern Cross Burwood – Drama Studio
Section Number: 61
General Category Guidelines:
For Eisteddfod Entrants of previous years, this section now combines self devised and scripted monologues.
1 piece only to be performed.
All Drama sections are to be performed from memory unless otherwise stated. No prompting allowed. Scripts may not be included as props, sets or costumes. Scripts/Text are to be included via PDF in your registration form or by the appointed date.
Repertoire can be from plays, comedy stand up, movies, etc, or of your own devising. Performances coming from scripted material must be an interpretation, not a recreation, of a script.
Performances that require sound effects must produce sound locally. Entrants will be required to provide their own playback unit (ie. phone, laptop etc.) for any sound effects required. A cable will be provided front of stage, and it is the responsibility of the entrant to provide their own assistant (staff, teacher etc.) to play any sound effects at the appropriate time.
Performances may include languages other than English where it is contextual and therefore, can be readily understood by an audience. Translations must be provided as part of the script PDF.
Mime and Physical Theatre routines are very welcome, but these must be scripted – you must provide the outline of your piece with specific intentions of blocking. Performance may be physical with no or little dialogue but must be narrative and character driven and not pure dance.
Use of offensive language will be penalised, and the performance may be stopped. The content of the script must be appropriate to the age of the performer and for a school age audience.
Entrants may bring minimal hand-held props.
